Male Nurses This One If For You!!!!

Nursing Student WHAT???

Last year just like every other nursing student at UOIT I decided to venture into the Collaborative BScN program with Durham College. Going into nursing I knew that it wasn’t going to be easy. But let me tell you I didn’t think it was going to be like this either. Don’t get me wrong I love it and would never change what I’m doing. This semester at UOIT has been one of the hardest yet one of the most enjoyable semesters I have had. Let me let you in on a little secret...I’m not the kind of kid who really enjoyed going to school. Going to a new school is never easy. I think we can all relate to this. The nursing program at UOIT to me is the best program offered. With all of the fantastic professors and all of the enthusiastic students I believe that the class of 2012 is going to one of the best classes of nurses to graduate from UOIT. With exams starting this week it’s hard to realize that this semester is over. I can’t believe that I have almost completed my first semester of University. When exams are out of the way and passed I will finally be able to say that I have completed semester one at UOIT in the nursing program.

Can I have a Side Dish of Stress Please?

I’m sure that I’m not alone when I say that stress this semester was no stranger. At the beginning of them semester I can remember a lot of late nights with a lot of wet pillows. Being a kid coming from a small elementary school to a little bigger high school to a university that is larger than 4 hallways I was pretty nervous on the first day of classes. With not knowing what to expect I didn’t really know what to do. Once I realized that I wasn’t the only one I felt a lot better. Once I met some new people and made some good friends some of the stress associated with going to a new school somewhat disappeared, but then came a stress that I still haven’t quite figured out, and I’m not sure if this stress will ever go away. Being in such a demanding program I find it hard to balance both my personal life and my school life. I always seem to be going assignments or attempting to stay on top of my readings. I’m sure anyone taking nursing can agree that it is sometimes difficult to balance school and personal life while still trying to manage to get the best marks that they can get.

Drive past or Stop to Help?

A few weeks ago going to school from my boyfriends house I was driving down Simcoe going south when all of a sudden all I could hear were horns honking so I thought to myself what on earth is going on. Realizing that I wasn't on my country roads I didn't pay much attention. Then as all the cars in front of me changed lanes I saw what all the honking was about. A nice elder gentleman's motorized scooter had stopped right in the middle of Simcoe street!!!!! With everyone zooming right past him I realized that he was in danger. I (being the only one in the car) stopped and got out of the car and went over to the gentleman and asked him if he needed any help. He replied with an out of breath response " yes" so I helped him pull his motorized scooter to the sidewalk where he fidled with it to try and get it going. Once he succeeded he thanked me and drove away. Mind you I was late for Anatomy and Physiology only the most important and most difficult class of this semester. After helping this gentleman you would not believe how a bad day could turn into a good one. My mood changed completely and all I could do was smile even through anatomy. So I'm asking you what would you have done, would you have been the one to stop, get out and help this man, or would you be one of the million people to just drive on and honk your horn?? Or have you ever had an experience like this and care to share. Thanks and happy helping:)

Hindering or Helping that is the Question

With the hospitals beginning to become more and more busier health care professionals needed to enhance their systems to accommodate for the increase of clients seen per day. With the electronic charting system doctors and nurses are now able to easily look up the clients past history and their complaints. Nurses no longer need to take a guess as to what the doctor’s orders may be because of their unreadable scribbles. By saying this I agree that technology is helping health care professionals deliver better and more efficient care to their clients resulting in possible shorter wait times. So now I ask you what do you think, is technology helping or hindering?

You Want Me To Remember WHAT??

With everything we studied through first semester it is hard to keep everything separate. From trying to keep theories, due dates, and papers separate we must also look for a place to try and store all of the other information that we need to know and understand. Throughout the semester I found a way that worked for me, thank god! Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not the most organized person in the world although this year I realized that organization is key. Without organization it is impossible to keep things separate and have a basic understanding of everything that we need to know for clinical and for our future career as nurses. Well taking a break from studying one day I came across some videos on youtube that really made me laugh and also helped me remember certain things that we needed to know. I found these really helped when trying to put everything together for assignments. One of the videos that I came across during my searches really stood out.I found this funny video that helped me remember the Five Rights to Medication Administration. It helped me and I hope it will help you to if you are finding trouble to remember them too:)

This is me. My name is Jessica everyone in my family calls me Jecca. I have always been known as the tall kid throughout my life, but in reality I’m not all that tall anymore with everyone growing taller and taller every year. I have younger brothers who are twins and much taller than I am. Let’s just say that they tower over me and I’m six two.

I have never blogged before and this is a whole new experience for me, so let’s have some fun with it. :) :) As of right now I do not have an opinion on blogging hopefully in the near future I will and when I do I will let you all know what I think.
